An installation of books representing the communities that call the Thames Estuary Home
We Are All Here transformed the inside of the “Arts in Transit” van into an installation of books representing the history and culture of communities around the Thames Estuary. The books’ covers are inspired by the stories of migrants that have arrived in the UK, via Tilbury Docks, from across the British Empire.
Each cover represents one of the following identities
Afghani, American, Argentinian, Australian, Austrian, Bangladeshi, Brazilian, Bulgarian, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Croatian, Cypriot, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Ecuadorian, Egyptian, English, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Ghanian, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indian, Indonesian, Iranian, Iraqi, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Kiwi, Lithuanian, Malaysian, Mexican, Moroccan, Nepali, Nigerian, Norwegian, Pakistani, Peruvian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Scottish, Serbian, Singaporean, Somalian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Swedish, Syrian, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, Welsh, West Indian.
It’s a celebration of literature and a place where books get a new life, just like the migrants that have settled in Britain.
